To get down to the boat we had to walk down 90 steps and across those pontoon ramps and there were locals who make a living carrying tourist bags to the ship for 10 yuans ($1.59) per bag. They were mostly older men and carried 4 bags each across their back using a wooden poll and ropes seen in this pic. I tripled their asking price after feeling a little guilty watching these 70 year old guys carry 4 bags each weighing 44 lbs. They appeared ecstatic at the gesture.
