The Qing Dynasty (pronounced Ching) was the last dynasty and lasted 268 years. The last 50 years was controlled not by am emperor but by an empress. An empress could not be Emperor but if her husband, the Emperor, died she would over see the next appointed emperor if he was a child and if that child were to die, she got to pick the next emperor and as long as he was a child, she got to over see his reign. Basically she got to unoffically run the country as long as the emperor was a child and this was the case for the last 47 years of the Qing Dynasty. Because it was not so long ago, much is known about the so called "Dragon Lady", "The Crazy Lady", or the Lady who ruled from behind a curtain. They called her these names because (1)if you disagreed with her you died, (2) if you made a noise that awoke her, you died, (3) every meal had to consist of 128 different dishes, some to eat, some to smell, and some to gaze upon, and last but not least (4) she only bathed in human breast milk.
