The Wall wasn't just to defend the empire. It served to control immigration as well as trade. The actual wall length is estimated at 4,000 miles long but if you count natural barriers that were incorporated into its design, it is more like 6,200 miles long.
I will post more pics of the wall at our next stop. Today we leave for Xi'an, home of the Terracotta Warriors.
