Forbidden City

A close up of the many balcony walls and ballasters all made of marble including the floor.  There are 27,000 of those hand carved marble posts within the city with no two exactly alike.  They are also found in many of the ancient structures built in and around Beijing because so much of the preserved buildings today were built about the same time (600 yrs ago) by the Ming Dynasty (known for their extravagance).  It is estimated that those posts number over 100,000 in the Beijing area.
