This bronze lion was one of two at the entrance of the Emperor's sleeping area. Note the ears laying down and forward and the eyes looking down. This was to warn those chosen few house staff to never look forward or at the Emperor nor gaze upon his many concubines that may be present. The Emperor had an Empress but also 3,000 concubines..."it's good to be the da King".
