The last Dynasty (The Qing Dynasty) pronouced "Ching Dynasty" was perhaps the most power hungry of the Dynasties with the last Emperor being Puyi (the boy emperor in the movie "The Last Emperor). He was of course a figure head. The last 47 years of the dynasty was controlled by Empress Cixi aka "The Dragon Lady", "The Crazy Lady". While living in the "Forbidden City" she would spend the hot summers at the Summer Palace where it was cooler (also in Beijing). Empresses could not rule but she could appoint a child as the emperor after her husband died so she appointed children so she effectively ruled China for nearly 50 years.
